Sutton House Academy are involved in a Mental Health and wellbeing project run and organised by Southend Local Authority. This has resulted in lots of opportunities and training for the students and staff including;
Signing up to the 1757 Voices Charter with Southend Youth Council (Mental Health Charter)
Kalma Kids- 8 weeks of workshops offered to our primary children teaching them about mindfulness and wellbeing.
Southend United Football Club-coaches selected to work with students across the school focusing on football skills while also being good role models and raising self esteem.
Staff wellbeing- Health checks for staff, good food workshops and Tai Chi offered to staff forming part of a public responsibility deal.
Training around trauma, Safe to Learn run by the Educational Psychology Service, sleep training.
Two members of staff to be named ‘Mental Health First Aiders’
Stonewall training around LGBT making the school a ‘Stonewall Champion’
Links with the Samaritans
Support around our PSHE curriculum to ensure it is in line with the DFS.
Anti bullying support and advice.
This will all make up the ‘Sutton House Story’ which will eventually be published next year as a celebration and recognition that we are fully inclusive and trained in mental health and wellbeing issues.
