Sutton House Academy is a specialist provision for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. All students at the academy have EHCPs and may be working below age-related expectations in their academic progress. The role of the PE Teacher is to deliver an engaging and accessible Physical Education curriculum for students from KS1 to KS4, while providing holistic support that promotes physical, social, and emotional development. PE at Sutton House Academy focuses on building confidence, teamwork, emotional regulation, and physical fitness, encouraging positive health habits and addressing any barriers to participation.

You will be expected to create an environment in which students feel safe to engage in physical activities, develop motor skills, and understand the importance of physical fitness in their lives. You will work closely with students to improve their self-esteem and confidence through physical challenges and team-based activities, while adapting your teaching methods to meet the individual needs outlined in their EHCPs.

Sutton House Academy aims to support all students with their specific needs and barriers to learning to enable them to reach their full potential both academically and in terms of managing their behaviour. This is achieved by providing high quality teaching and learning and by using assessment, engagement and developing educational programmes. The Academy works actively with students and their parents/carers to ensure positive outcomes for all.

Focused attention is paid to the student’s individual needs through an integrated therapeutic approach to the curriculum. The Academy works with families to put in place aspirational targets for for all learners and always celebrate the achievements of students to reinforce their success and achievement.

Any of the students demonstrating the skills and attainment required to successfully reintegrate into a mainstream school will be supported in the transition.  Families will also receive support and guidance on how to best work with the school to help ensure their child is successful.
