Vocational Instructor (Behaviour Lead & Vocational Teacher)

The AD Instructor – Behaviour Lead at Sutton House Academy will take a leading role in shaping and delivering the academy’s behaviour management strategies across the entire school, ensuring that positive behaviour and emotional regulation are embedded within the culture of the school. This role involves working directly with students who present with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other special educational needs (SEN), many of whom are working below age-related expectations. The AD Instructor will not only manage behaviour but will also teach vocational subjects (such as construction, IT, hospitality, or other career-focused pathways), providing practical skills that support students' personal development, work-readiness, and emotional resilience.

The purpose of this role is to establish and maintain a positive and structured environment, utilizing a restorative approach to behaviour, while also engaging students in meaningful vocational learning. The AD Instructor will provide targeted support to ensure that students can overcome barriers to learning, improve emotional regulation, and develop practical skills that contribute to their future success.

Sutton House Academy aims to support all students with their specific needs and barriers to learning to enable them to reach their full potential both academically and in terms of managing their behaviour. Any of the students demonstrating the skills and attainment required to successfully reintegrate into a mainstream school will be supported in the transition.  Families will also receive support and guidance on how to best work with the school to help ensure their child is successful.
